Blurb on Amazon: Alex Locke is a reformed ex-convict, forced back into London’s criminal underworld for one more job. He agrees to steal a priceless artefact; a human heart carved from blackest obsidian; from the home of a decrepit old man. But when the burglary goes horribly wrong, Alex is plunged into the nightmarish world of the Wolves of London, a band of unearthly assassins who will stop at nothing to reclaim the heart. As he races to unlock the secrets of the mysterious object, Alex must learn to wield its dark power or be destroyed by it.
Somewhere during the first few chapters, there’s a bit of a sentence that states exactly how I felt after 2 chapters. This quote is: “…that I was venturing into dark and dangerous territory.” How right was I?! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! But the cliffhanger has frustrated me. Really frustrated me!!! I’ve literally just finished it and slammed my kindle down in anger! Why do they do it to us????
Right, so. I entered this book blind. Really blind apparently. I had no idea where it was going to go, what was going to happen and my gosh I got an exciting ride! It caught me within pages, and I found myself wanting to know the next few pages. I loved the fact that there are very accurate details or locations, names of pubs etc. And I even had a smile when I realised I’ve been to one of them!! One word for this book, in my opinion is Gripping.
The story flowed well, with unexpected turns and friendships formed. I will, when I’ve made a dent in my piles of books certainly buy the second book. And then the third when that is published.
I do have one problem… The daughters?? Why wasn’t there more mention? Especially the youngest.. I’ve come away with more questions than I feel acceptable and have to live them until I read the second!
My Rating 5/5
